Hello, we are Jessica and Humphrey, directors and operators of London Elstree Aerodrome.
We want to invite the local community to join us on Thursday 1st September between 11am-5pm for a free summer open day where people of all ages will be able to experience the excitement of aviation and learn a bit about the history, present and future of the aerodrome, with great food, drink and activities.

Since taking on the management of the Elstree Aerodrome and the Aldenham Estate eight years ago, we have wanted to find ways to make the place more sustainable, connected and accessible.
Whether you are a visiting pilot, a budding flyer or engineer, a passionate plane-spotter, a family with inquisitive children, or simply someone who wants to know more and have a fun day out, please drop in to experience the buzz and learn about everything that goes on at London Elstree.
Meet the people behind the scenes
We want to encourage more local residents, especially the next generation, to meet the people who make sure the Aerodrome runs smoothly, to help them feel a part of its future and benefit from the aviation opportunities on their doorstep.
Our work with The Air League already helps promote the wider opportunities in the aviation industry to local school children, and many trainee pilots go on to fly commercial or military aircraft (the Red Arrows’ previous “Red One” squadron leader learned to fly here!).

We hope this open day will work to bring the community closer together at the aerodrome, and that more people will be able to share our excitement about the future of aviation here.

Here is what we have planned for the day
GET CLOSER: Opportunities to get up close to aircraft and watch them lift off and touch down all day, including a flight simulator (extra charge). The emergency services are also planning to join us and we’ll be collecting for The Essex & Herts Air Ambulance, so please do bring your spare change.
FLY-IN: Free ‘fly-in’ welcoming aircraft from across the South East (please register in advance - more info to follow).
KIDS: Enjoy free air-inspired children’s arts & crafts, face painting and games, and even pet therapy animals from our neighbouring care farm, Pages Farm.
RELAX & EAT: Take a seat to enjoy a range of food and drink stalls with a great view of the runway, including Aldenham Estate residents The Social Dough Company.
SHOP LOCAL: Browse the stalls of local makers and businesses based on or around the aerodrome including Bee & Wild gift shop, Jar of Hearts Tattoo & Home Farm Glamping.
LEARN TO FLY: Talk to the teams from the professional flight training schools based at Elstree Aerodrome about learning to fly
TALKS: Free informal presentations by aviation professionals at their stands
HISTORY & HERITAGE: Discover the history of Elstree Aerodrome and consider its future
FLIGHT EXPERIENCES: Book short flight experiences on the day to take to the skies yourself (extra charge will apply - TBC - more details to follow).
FREE PARKING & ENTRY: Please follow the signs for our special event parking and join us anytime between 11am and 5pm (see location map)

This is a free event. No tickets are needed to attend, but your RSVPs will help us with our plans. Arrive at any point during the day and stay as long as you wish. We will have some seating but do make yourself at home with your own folding chairs or picnic rugs.
